Britpop adalah sebuah subgenre dari rock alternatif yang berasal dari Inggris Raya. Britpop muncul dari scene musik independen Inggris pada awal 1990-an dan dipengaruhi oleh musik pop Inggris tahun 1960-an dan 1970-an. Gerakan dikembangkan sebagai reaksi terhadap berbagai jenis musik dan tren budaya pada akhir 1980-an dan awal 1990-an, terutama grunge fenomena dari Amerika Serikat. Sebagai akibat dari invasi musik Inggris ke Amerika band grunge (khususnya Nirvana), Inggris baru kelompok-kelompok seperti Blur Suede dan meluncurkan gerakan dengan memposisikan diri sebagai kekuatan musik yang berlawanan, referensi musik gitar Inggris dari masa lalu dan menulis tentang Inggris unik topik dan keprihatinan. Band-band ini segera bergabung dengan orang lain termasuk Oasis, Pulp, Supergrass dan elastica.

Kelompok Britpop rock alternatif membawa Inggris ke dalam arus utama dan membentuk latar belakang yang lebih besar yang disebut gerakan kebudayaan Inggris Best Britannia. Walaupun band-band yang lebih populer mampu menyebarkan sukses komersial luar negeri, terutama ke Amerika Serikat, gerakan yang sebagian besar hancur pada akhir dekade 90an.
